Lower Radiator Hose
« on: August 11, 2004, 17:54:08 »
This past weekend I replaced my lower radiator hose.  The one on the car was touching the pulley belt and had carved a groove in the hose.  Luckly I noticed this while doing some cleaning in the engine compartment.

Anyway, to install the new hose, I had to trim 1+ inches from the end which connects to the radiator.  Also, it seems that there is VERY LITTLE clearance between the hose and the pulley and belts, maybe 1/4 inch or so?

Is this normal?  Engine mounts were replaced a month ago.  I do have air conditioning as well.

Anyway, has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Bob,

My hose has 1/2" clearance from the A/C pully. At this location the hose passes through a rubber sleeved bracket that secures the hose so that it will not vibrate nor come in contact with the pully.  Do you have a bracket like this on your car?

Hi Jeff,

I do not have a bracket.  Sounds like this is what I need.  Do you have a picture, part number?  Where does the bracket connect to.  Looks like very little room...

Regards,
Bob

Bob,

I'll try and get a pic tomorrow.  I looked at the 280SL CD and could not find the bracket.  Same goes for the Haynes manual.  I'm certain it's a factory part.  It looks like it secures to the radiator frame somehow.  I look tomorrow and advise.
