heater core/ control valve
« on: November 25, 2013, 02:53:01 »
To All the question I have is how many O rings fit on the heater control valve?   I must have the heater core from HADES  once removed and the valve freed to move easily I could only place one o ring on the top half of the valve, the bottom portion has a indention that appears a o ring would go but once I placed the o ring on the bottom portion it would not go into the housing.
Now the nightmare started.  I placed the top o ring on and installed the heater core.  All seemed fine until a leak developed at the top coming from where the o ring should seal and control mechanism. I then noticed that the gate for the control slot was broken and not allowing ( I am guessing )e  pressure from the top screw to keep the o ring in place.   Has any-one had this issue?  I am still in search for a good functional heater core and control valve.   WOW what a job!!!!!!     thanks for all the help     ps Before I put everything back I did test drive before leak started and was happy to have short drive before trouble started again.

Hello,

Yes, just one rubber o-ring near the top. Try going to the Tech Manual, Alfred has some good photos posted there.  If the fragile lip at the top of the control valve has broken off, that is a problem.  You can solder an entire new valve on the core if you can find one. I have seen emergency fixes for there valves with broken lips. some use a hose clamp with a slot cut into it. Clamp it on the valve so that the slot in the clamp performs as did the broken lip.

Lots of work getting in there. Best to fix it right.
