broken hose (tube)

hello again... (maybe a vacuum tube???)

today i reached just behind the battery looking for the + cable which had fallen there and i mistakenly grabbed an (apprx 3/8") black tube/hose that was unbeknownst to be very very brittle and it broke in my hand. i followed it after having to remove the battery to see better and it goes from a fitting on the front of the engine behind the fan blade travels along the drivers side wheel arch and then goes downward under the car and disappears. can anyone help with what this is and does and how do i properly replace it. should i replace all of these type of lines as this one was so very brittle?

also, does the hood open further (and safely not damaging it) if i remove the cloth keeper strap?

p.s. thank you to those who helped with the neutral safety switch issue, it is tested, working properly and back in the car awaiting the shift linkage bushings i ordered from mercedes.

Sounds like it could be the black plastic fuel vapor vent line that goes from the fuel vapor expansion tank and ends at the front of the engineblock on later US  280 SL cars. Its routed together with  the  brake and fuel lines on the car.

certainly seems like plastic... very brittle... anyone have anything showing a picture or diagram/part #s etc???

When you get your EPC working, you will see that it is #47 in '47 FUEL SYSTEM'.  But it's pretty generic stuff you can find at auto parts or hardware stores.

You can also fix a break in the line with a short piece of hose.
