accelerator link rod bush replacement
« on: September 25, 2015, 22:20:03 »
Hi, does anyone have experience in changing out the bushings in the link rod that goes across the top of the engine? That is the 2 bushings either end of the rod. One of the bushes (at the FIP end) appears to be held in by a circlip type arrangement and I can see for the life of me how to remove either?!?!? Any pointers much appreciated  ???

I've just done this and struggled like hell to get to the spring/ring clip in the end of this. In the end the engineer in me won out so I gave it a sharp tap with a hammer and it popped right off.

It has a spring ring clip in it and it just presses on/off like the smaller ones that fit on the ball studs on the throttle linkages. Then there's a couple of circlips that hold the bushing on. Either that or I've broken mine beyond repair......You can see the hammer I used in the second picture!

I took the one off the other end out of the aluminium housing today, that was the same. I used a drift and tapped it out with a hammer, no problems, only needed a gentle tap.

Thanks gents, very useful photos Scott(!). With the advice it was a simpler task than I thought in the end. Both bushes changed in about 45 mins once I realised they simply press fit in/out. Wish all jobs were that straight forward.
