Euro Headlight Restoration
« on: December 16, 2013, 17:02:51 »
Hello,

I recall seeing a post about restoring European headlights some years ago but have not been able to locate.  I did review all the info in the tech manual but still have a few questions.  I am planning to replace all the reflectors and upgrade the bulbs while I have units removed.  Appreciate any advice and responses to the below.

1.) What options are available for quality replacement main and fog reflectors?  Found them on SLS but prefer a US supplier.

2.) Can the reflectors be replaced from rear of units without separating glass?

3.) Recommended supplier for upgraded halogen and increased wattage bulbs?
        * I e-mailed Daniel Stern without response so need either a parts list or supplier able to consult

4.) Should I replace body gasket or only if damaged?

5.) Level of difficulty in getting the units properly remounted and aligned?

Thank you!

These guys have the lower fog-light reflectors at a (relatively) reasonable price: http://www.vintageeuroparts.com/100361.html

I know you did not ask about the main unit but if you remove the reflector cover ( small half moon) you can put in halogens in which are MUCH brighter... the bulbs are longer hence why the reflector cover needs to be removed.  I found it to be a GREAT improvement.

You can get Halgoens on line that are made for the Euro light units.  They are not as long as the new ones on the market, and will fit without any modifications.  I beleive they are NOVEL.
