Photo Memories from Williamsburg, Virginia Pagoda - 50
« on: October 08, 2013, 23:40:48 »
I’ve taken quite a few photos of all the Pagoda’s I saw on Saturday morning September 14th in the hotel parking lot.

I will give each photo a number if you see your car send me a PM and I will gladly add your Name, Car Year and Model below your car picture.

All I ask is you PM me this information in this format

Photo No. X, Your Forum Handle, Car Year, Model, Garage Location

Now I know there where 47 Pagoda’s (or there abbots) at the hotel, if your’s is nor shown below then you must have been in town shopping or filled your gas tank.

Please feel free to add as many of your photos to this thread for memories are made of this :) Note, if you see more then one photo of your car just give me the Photo No's.
My iPhone went wild that Saturday morning what can I tell you ;D

BTW ... Frank travelled the longest to get to Williamsburg, VA. By the time he arrived at my house he traveled
already 2,000 KM (some 1,242 Miles), I bet by the time Frank made it home again he put close to 4,000 miles
on his 1968 Pagoda. I think that must be a record. Frank how close am I with my milage estimate?

When I come east I will make sure to stop by and we celebrate your effort over a six pack Was nice to have meet you!

Rolf-Dieter,

excellent to have photographs of everyone in attendance. I not that you've uploaded them to Smugmug. I hope Smugmug as a webservice remains in existence otherwise this post will turn into dead-links in the future. I know that uploading 50 photographs here is not very convenient, but there are two alternatives...

  • use our Google+ community, and conveniently upload them there
  • or go to your profile, and switch to the sMOOth-lt116v1 theme... there you can upload photographs when editing a post using the Insert Image button. These will be uploaded on our website, and automatically scaled. Then you copy and paste the link into the post, just like a Smugmug link. However, the photo's will then be stored on our server, backed-up, and secure.

Peter

Well Don. I cannot let you take all the glory of the wild goose chase, after all I started it with a bang  ;D Then you and Frank could not resist following the blue tornado :) It was a fun detour nevertheless ...

I totaled 5750 km or 3572 miles.
I would like to say that I did enjoy the unplanned scenery.

It's nice to see all the different color combinations; for people who consider to change paint; interior or softop. All the small difference like hubcaps, mirrors and headlights make it fun to explore all these pictures.

I like the combinations 13, 17 and 28.

Thanks for sharing this Rolf.

Frank, you are truly the one and only individual that drove the longest distance to this event! While it was established to be so on Saturday night during our banquet / buffet, I cannot understand why Michael from Toronto was named for this achievement.

As listed here (Scroll down to Reply # 9)---> http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=19174.0

I do agree Michael from Toronto traveled a fair distance, only yo traveled a great deal more :)

Glad you made it home okay, like you I first overnight spot to Charleston, WV

Pascal, my pleasure to share the photos here with you and others :)

I only wish others would let me know there picture number, so I may add there name and model/year.

I can't imagine Mike from Toronto traveling all that way just to go to the car show Sunday afternoon.  ??? I didn't see him around on Saturday nor did I see him Sunday. It was nice of him to stop by and say hello. ::)

Rolf,

Not everyone is as active on this forum as you are  ;) but indeed it would be great to have all that info. If I was there I would have sent it to you.

All these people are from this group ?

I'dd love to have a gathering here of that size, I'm trying with some Belgians however with autumn now it's not going to be for this year I think.

I concur that Frank G. from New Brunswick traveled the longest distance to P-50, for which he won the Long Distance Award at the P-50 Saturday Banquet.  That is why I inserted "(reported)" in the Classics on the Green results that I copied from their website in the other thread!

It would be nice if someone were to post the complete list of P-50 Award winners as announced at the Saturday Banquet.  Pete L. had his work cut out for him with all the great Pagodas there!  The awards themselves were some really nice one-off reproductions of 17th Century wine bottles hand blown at the Jamestown Historic Site glassworks and engraved with P-50 on the bottom as I recall. I remember that Ray Schlicht received a "Best Restored" award for his Green 250SL California Coupe (#7) and I think Ed C. received a "Most Potential for Improvement" award for his Red 230SL (#32).  There was a "Best Paint" award that went to the ladies with the pale yellow 230 or 250SL in photo #18 (who should also have gotten a "Best Colonial Theme Costume" award!) I think there was also a "Best Interior" and "Best Unrestored" award.

Hello Rick, No 31 updated, let me know if it is a 230, 250 or 280 and I shall add it.

PS. I am surprised that so few came back onto the forum to check for photos after they traveled so long and far to Williamsburg, VA.

Nope, I had nothing to to do with that.  What a nice award!

As I have mentioned more than once in these forums, my wife and I have been attending  this show in Richmond for many, many years.  The folks who run that show are a class act, so I'm not surprised that your award followed you home.

Since you have shared, here is a shot of the "Best of 50th Anniversary Pagoda" award (the model is mine, you may have seen it on the parcel shelf of my 230 SL when it was on display that weekend!).

I can tell you that I bought half a case of this wine the day of the show and cracked open a bottle on our 37th wedding anniversary a couple of weeks later.  It was some pretty good juice!  Lucy did the complete round of wine tastings at all of the tents during the day while I was busy doing my "car show stuff" and ordered a case of her favorites, (including the "Festival de Meritage" ) by phone the week after the show.  You may be able to get in touch with New Kent Winery to buy a couple of bottles of the "Festival de Meritage" if they have any left.

Mike,
The pictures are the proof of a very tasteful (and nonetheless tasty :)) reward idea. Congratulations!
I couldn't help imagining how great would it look if both elements were transposed into a reward in real life proportions!

The car would probably be there just for decoration (unless it was some heavy project car ;)) but the bottle (or rather container!) would be able to address the thirst of the entire assembly  ;D

Thank you Mike and Congratulations ! Your car was truly a nice representation on the Green as all the others that made it to the event.

I will thank the Winery and copy Bob, perhaps he had something to do with it that the award followed me home.

Thanks for posting pictures of the Williamsburg event; I am just now catching up! My sister works for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and lives in one of the historic houses. I photographed my car there Saturday afternoon. (Hopefully I attached it correctly.)

Thanks Ray for providing the information. I must say I am a bit disapointed that so few Members have replied to this thread (identifying there lovely Pagoda) that would allow me to add there name and model year to the photo (s) I've posted here. Perhaps more will add this information as time marches on :)

Maybe a few of us have to revisit this thread from time to time so that it will not slip too far down the line. After all the 50 year celebration does mean something to us all or does it?

Cheers and Happy & Healthy 2014 to One and All!
