Hi there,
I thought I might as well start with a photo of my beloved 1970 280SL. It was taken a couple of years ago, on a rare perfect summer's day in England. Since then I have moved to Scotland, and the car has taken me to Barcelona and the South of France, too, without missing a beat.
I am happy to send a higher resolution version to anyone who wants it.  And feel free to point out that the sill should be black, not silver; I know! But I prefer it this way...

Wot, no headrests? ;)
Oh, and the sills under the door, shouldn't they be black[:p]
(had the same comment when I posted a pic of my car)
Yours looks great and if that's a low res pic, post some more!

Hi Malc,
I'm in Edinburgh and -you're not kidding- thankfully I didn't come here for the weather!  I know the car would be a lot happier with some more sunny days, but alas.
I don't suppose you can reccommend a good local-ish garage for the servicing of my car? When I lived down South I used John Haynes in Worthing, who were brilliant. I'm almost considering driving the car all the way there, but that seems a bit crazy.

Jaap,
Can't really recommend anybody in Edinburgh as I haven't lived there since 1981 - oh my gawd I am getting old    However if you hunt around in Lieth you might find a "hole in the wall" kind of place that has real engineers in it rather than young kids, not that it's their fault. There used to be a great garage in Biggar, but I don't know if it's still there
Word of mouth is always good.
I actually use a local garage near me, it's a dirty faded kind of place, full of interesting stuff and the guys know what they are doing. I do trust them, let me say they know how to deal with cars over 5 years old unlike most dealers and "quick fit" type of places.
Good for the jobs you can't do, MOT's etc....
They are:
Tough and Johnston
Bogwell Lane      (What an name  ;) )
Stonehaven
tel 01569 762091
Kenny Johnston is the guy in charge (I think his son is getting trained ;) )
That way you can sample the delights of Stonehaven, more bars per resident than any other town on the north east coast. See Dunnotar Castle (Mel Gibson/Franco Zeforrelli spelling?? filmed Hamlet there)and it's only 1 and 3/4hours by car or 2 hours on the train from old reekie 8)
Cheers
Malc
PS you could even have a look at all my "scrap" and if desperate for somewhere to stay for the night too.......

Malc,
Many thanks for the info -and your kind offer, too.  I had hoped to find a place that specialise in classic Mercedes, in Scotland, but I realise this will have to remain a fantasy.  :o
I will have another look at places in Edinburgh, or perhaps drive South after all. Failing that, I will gladly buy you a pint (or two ;) ) in Stonehaven.  Thanks again,
