January Collector Car Auctions in Scottsdale
« on: December 30, 2013, 15:49:15 »
Attending the four major collector car auctions in Scottsdale, AZ each year is like going to Disney World for car guys. This year there are no fewer than eleven Pagodas due to cross the block three weeks from now including this striking blue one at Russo and Steele...

And a claimed 25,000mile car at RM...

For all you "go fast" fans, here's a 230SL with a Corvette LS1 Engine...

Of course, I am partial to the red '68  being offered at Gooding & Company  8)

A blue 1969 Pagoda 280 SL sold yesterday at the Barrett Jackson Auction for $60,000-

The same fellow also purchased a VW Beatle from the late 50s

Let's hope he will become a member and post some photos,

Tonight I watched the RM auction on the internet. Fantastic show. This one lady:

And a claimed 25,000mile car at RM...
http://rmauctions.com/lots/lot.cfm?lot_id=1063846

has been sold "no reserve" for $150.000+10% buyer fee =$165.000,-
One of the relative nicest lots this evening.
Generally (in my opinion) market slightly below expectations, which were slightly too (?) high lately...

Not so original & unrestored

Put the phrase "unrestored"or "original" in the ad and the price goes up, irrespective of how truthful it it is.
Look at this 230SL for $58K, no firewall pad, oversized aftermarket radio but it is an "Unrestored original 230SL with only one very careful repaint."
Does that mean that second repaints make it no longer original?   ;)

As an aside...on this particular car, if the repaint was careful, the paint preparation certainly was not. Overspray EVERYWHERE!
