US Title

Hello,
I have a reimported US - Pagoda 280 SL from California and unfortunatly, there are no more old documents of the car. I have never seen a US - Title. Is it possible, that someone shows here a picture from a  US - Title ?
I only want to know how it looks like.

Dirk, as far as I know there is no such thing as a US title.  Each state has its own requirements for a title.  Some states, such as New York, do not require titles for vehicles before a certain date.  Perhaps someone from California can comment on what the specifics are for titles in that particular state.  I'm sure California also has a DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) website that can provide more information.

Yes ... titles are different State to State.  I don't have copies of my titles with me, but here are some I pulled of the net and I know mine look like these.  California has a couple of different type of titles ... older titles and newer titles.  Depending on when the last owner bought the car, they might have an older version or newer version.

Are you saying that you purchased a California car with no title, no bill of sale?  
There is a process in California that involves a vehicle transfer with lost title.  Is the seller cooperative?  If so, that is the easiest path.  I have no idea how you got a shipper to ship the car without documents.  Is the car in your possession?

If seller is cooperative, you should have seller complete CA DMV form REG227 (see attached, or email me and I will email the form to you) to transfer the title into your name.   I don't know if you can do this without paying sales tax.   Or if you really trust the seller, have the seller obtain a duplicate title and send that to you.

@ scout : no, I think, when the car came over to Germany, people had the Title. But now I am the 6th owner in Germany and someone in the chain lost all old documents.
@ kampala : thank you, I just wanted to see how they look like and I didn`t find some examples in the net.
