Production Numbers of 280 SL particularly in 1971

Not sure if this is a stupid question, but reading the technical manual, It states that the 1971 production run started in October 1970 (kinda like US cars that start selling next model year in the summer).  So is the question of how many were built from Jan 1, 1971 forward? or 1971 model year? which starts in October.   Mine was produced Sep/Oct 1070  #021017
