W111 two-paint color combinations?
« on: December 09, 2013, 19:11:55 »
Those of you who collect W111 memorabilia and information, can you provide details on what kind of two-paint color combinations were available for these cars?
Or perhaps a photo showing such cars like this one from the Daimler Media Archives?

We have a few links to color combos including two tone at The Coupe Group site. Scroll down the page to the "Colors" section. http://w111coupe.com/Colors___Options.html

Most interesting, the two tone color combinations for the 111 coupes as shown in the link have the hubcap centers matching the body color of the car as opposed to the top as the Pagoda does.

Good observation! The coupe wheel covers should match the color of the roof just like the Pagoda, you are correct. The two tone blue coupe I see locally match the wheels to roof as well.

Dear Larry,
Why does the trunk sign reads "280 SE"??
Rearview mirror on the left door, steering wheel and perhaps the two-piece hubcaps tell us - it should be a 250 SE... :o

Engine upgrade (by the owner) ...? ;)

I will go out on a limb and say this car is a 250 (or 220)SE and has had rear collision repair. Why?

- The steering wheel is an early one as is the side rear view mirror. The interior rear view mirror also appears to be chrome which is the earlier one. Later 280 SE was black plastic. I wouldn't think anybody would switch all of those out.
- The rear bumper is a Euro bumper because it has the hole in it for the euro license plate light. This car should be a US car because of the Bullet turn signals and rear license plate lights. Also There are no turn signals in the headlamp door. So probably US.
- One more piece of damning evidence of a rear collision. The US license plate lights are from the readily available W108 sedan and not the W111 coupe/cab. The bulb access screw is on top where as on all original W111 coupe/cabs have the access screw on the bottom. I know because my car had rear damage and the lights were switched out.

So, the car had a rear collision and the trunk lid was used from a 280SE as was the W108 license plate lights. The replacement bumper was a Euro version.
