One owner 1968 (mfg 1967) 250 SL
« on: June 12, 2014, 21:24:19 »
I just bought from the estate of the original owner a 1967 250 SL which is titled as a 1968.  The car is white, has a manual transmission, AC and a hardtop.  The odometer reads 45K and the car looks like it could be original miles though I can't take it to the bank as I haven't found any supporting documents.  I did find the original application for title dated January 28, 1968 indicating the original owner (the estate of the guy from whom I bought the car) paid $7,701 for the car new.  I have restored several British cars (MGTD and Triumph TR6) and am looking forward to driving my new 250SL.  The VIN indicates the car was the 29th car from last of the 250SLs.  I have learned from my past restorations that you need to join a group that knows your car type.  I have already taken advantage of the Pagoda Group's manufacturing information as well as a great article about how to fix a problem I have in engaging reverse on my manual transmission.  Thanks for the help so far, I'm sure there is more to come.

Hi Mike,

Welcome to the Group.  As John said, photos are always appreciated on the site.  I think you will find that the Pagoda SL Group is one of the most informative groups for our vehicle that is around.  Have a good look through the Tech Manual as there is a wealth of information there.  As a Basic Member there are some areas that you do not get access to, one being the Linkage Tour that is almost a must for anyone that wants to ‘fiddle ‘with their car to keep it in the best of shape and tune.

Ask lots of questions and as you get more into ownership consider joining as a Full Member, it will pay for its self in the second ‘fix’ you have on your car if not for the Linkage Tour alone.

Photos Photos Photos and Questions, we love them.

Welcome, this will be a great deal different from a TD and even the TR6.  You are going to have a lot of fun and a car more like an E type.
