Chassis plate query?

Hi - new (and delighted) owner here,

Can someone tell me what the info plate is right next to where the engine lid catch goes into the lock, please?  I can see the main guts of my chassis number (I have a RHD Auto 230SL, so 113-42-22) but then there are a few other numbers and letters, and I'm not clear what they refer to?

Also, on the main chassis plate on the bulkhead (cut into the vinyl padded trim), are the last 8 digits in significantly raised print, with the 113042 merely etched on the metal?

Thanks Kevin. I've printed that link out and the Body & Paint Code plate now makes sense!

I can't find anything about raised last eight digits on the main chassis plate though?  Also, I see there's mention of another "Type Plate" with the chassis number on it near the rear left wheel (B pillar perhaps?) but I can't find anything on my car.  Can someone give me an exact description of the location of this type plate (or maybe a photo)?

I would guess that since 113042 would have been on ALL VIN plates of the time (113 being the chassis type and 042 for a 230SL) that would have been pre-stamped on the plate. The following eight digits would be specific to YOUR car therefore stamped at the time of production.
