The story can be found here for us folks that are members of the Canadian Mercedes club we only get a black and white star issue and only one at that per year :(

I will become a member of the American Club this year and will look forward in getting color Star Magazines :)

Great story from another original owner.  Also nice to see the ‘correct’ Pagoda Group produced firewall pad ;)

Very nice indeed! Always great to read about another original owner and their car. I guess there are a few of us old farts around who made a "wise buy" all those years ago:-). i see there was mention of a "Pagoda Organization" that sourced him a correct appearing firewall pad. Is he a member of this Forum? If so, well done Gary.

And Thanks, Rolf for posting a link to the article.

Hi John,
the owner is not a member - he lives around here - but he supplied us with a replacement pad that he had bought around 1974 but never installed. We used it to verify the surface diamond pattern and surface structure of the material I found and for making the cutting template. In return he got a new pad through David Gallon.  The foam layer on his old one had crumbled too much and could not be used for this restoration.
You can read the story here: http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=15373.0;attach=12640

As 66 and Blue types, Gary J is a resident of SoCal and has made it to several of our Pagoda events. He even drove his Pagoda once! He freely admits it has become a trailer queen. It is a beautiful car, and I have had the opportunity to judge it at La Jolla and Legends of the Autobahn.

If you go back to Pagoda Notes, it is his car that I have several photos of (pre-restoration) showing the placement of the grounding circles (bare metal for the ground hook ups) and for the black paint around the radiator mounts and grill.

He is in the MB Club, but also admits freely to being a non-techie regarding email and such. So between Dave Gallon, myself and other MB members we keep Gary posted on Pagoda group gatherings.

Beautiful car indeed!  It's interesting that the prices of the best Pagodas have now moved into the range where a restoration of this quality has probably become cost effective -- that is, he could probably sell the car for what he has in it.

Nice story Peter!

Dieter, being in London Ontario, you have a choice: be a member of International Stars (we don't seem to have any Canadian members any longer, but our membership area includes SW Ontario) or the Toronto section. Both of these are MBCA sections and you would indeed get The Star 6x per year...
