Soft top replacement
« on: August 10, 2014, 16:17:34 »
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew of a quality business in the Los Angeles area who would be able to replace my soft top canvas on my 71 280SL?  And what approximately, should I expect to pay for such a job?

Thanks,

Rob

Check out German Auto Tops: http://www.germanautotops.com/ they also do installations.
You can also search for more info on GAT here and you'll find for example:

Its quite an achievable and satisfying job to do it yourself, even for a first timer like me.  I had never done a soft top before, but ended up with something I am pretty happy with.
I bought my top from Topsandseats.com for $325.00. I read all the great advice on this forum and took my time and did it over a weekend.
Well worth trying.

The images here are after it has been stowed for over a month and just opened and put up to take these pics. It stretches out nicely once its warm.

Jedwards,

Thank you very much.  I thought about doing it myself.  I am fairly mechanical but when I looked into doing it myself, I became a bit overwhelmed.  Was it fairly easy for you and which advice/instruction column did you follow?

Thanks,

Rob
