Can anyone read Japanese?
« on: September 11, 2014, 12:34:47 »
Hi Guys,

My project car that I recently purchased previously featured on the cover of a Japanese magazine.

The previous owner just sent me a scan of it. If anyone can read Japanese I would love to know what is written inside the bubble?

Cheers

My Japanese is a bit rusty, but this is what I make of it:

Err...thanks Cees..

maybe I should change the post subject to read...."Prize for best caption / translation"

I'm guessing yours is not likely to win ;D

p.s - it was still owned by an Aussie (previous owner) at the time it made the cover. I don't know how why an Aussie car ended up on the cover of the Japanese Magazine.

I do not undwerstand what it means but apparently it says:  "If you are going to have fun in a car - car sensor".  As described by my daughter's friend the sensor would be like the automatic paper towel machines in public bathrooms....or a door sensor that turns the lights off when you shut the door.

Thanks Ian.

The name of the magazine is Car Sensor so it sounds like a quote simply promoting their publication and not related to the car.

Cees's suggested is more entertaining and sadly close to the truth :-\

Looking at the cover photograph, the big GUM tree probably gives it away as having never been in Japan.

Almost looks like the guy sitting in the car, was allowed to for a photo, I wonder if he works for the CAR SENSOR magazine??

Anyhow, nice to see, the car looks in pretty good condition, what sort of project are you completing on the car Rob?

Hi Paul,

I picked up the car a few months ago from Perth. It is Aust delivered  - originally to Melb.

I plan to strip the car completely - let's say it looks good from far and far from good. Floors and sills are all rusted out - I think it was stored outdoors with the original window seals (say no more).

I believe it was resprayed just prior to this photo (a very poor job too) in a paint finish that is "slightly more metallic than original" - oh well, i plan to restore it as close to original as I can afford.

Cheers

Hi Rob, that's great to see, hope you manage to document it's rebuild and keep us up to date with it.

All the very best

Thanks Paul - will do. I'll kick off the interior strip down in a few weeks with a friend / professional car trimmer. That will be about the extent of the hands on work I'm afraid. No time and lack of knowledge/space/tools.

Cheers
