Budapest to Frankfurt NOW need travel stop suggestions
« on: September 09, 2014, 15:14:54 »
I'm in Budapest for at least 3 more days.  I'm departing from Frankfurt in 6 days.  I have a car and am driving there.   I'm wondering if anyone has car-related or mercedes-related suggestions for places to stop along the way.  I'm also wondering what the parameters are for Stuttgart and a Mercedes museum there...    I have not done my homework for this vacation and perhaps I might get a few last-minute suggestions for how to spend the next 6 days.   thanks!  Scott

Scott,
should you drive on E60 from Salzburg to Munich then make a detour and visit the EFA Automobil & Modeltrain Museum in Amerang, it is quite nice.

Thanks for the suggestion Alfred.  That might work if we go the southern route and stop there on the way to Stuttgart and spend 2 nights in Stuttgart...

this has been officially added to my itinerary along with the MB Stuttgart museum and optional Porsche museum.  thanks.   Scott
(although I doubt either will compare to the TATRA museum we visited in CZ!!!)

The Porsche museum is well worth the stop. Fairly new building, as the old one was tucked in a pretty much a side thought.
That typed, no match for the MB museum though!

The EFA museum is a bit off the beaten path, but I recall it as being well worth the visit. Happy exploring!

Just outside of Stuttgart you find the Factory Tour and Customer Pick up of new cars (see link below), I enjoyed the factory tour in 2009 and highley recommend it. Call ahead for the factory tour, I was luckey they added me to a group of people that picked up there new car.

Hi Scott,
80 km south of Frankfurt along the A5 is the small Carl Benz museum, where he build his first cars.
http://www.automuseum-ladenburg.de
From there to Pforzheim goes the historic way (106 km) his wife Bertha took 1888 with one of his first cars (model 3) with their 2 boys and without Carl's knowledge. This was the real start for his success.

Hi Scoot,

When I was in Stuttgart, I visited also the MB factory in Sindelfingen nearby Stuttgart. A very impressive factory tour! In Fellbach - also nearby - is the restauration site of MB to be visited (see http://www.stuttgart-tourist.de/a-mercedes-benz-classic-center)

Gerard Wuisman, now for business on Curacao, where you even don't see any MB.

Thanks for the suggestions!  I'm in Salzburg right now (just got up) and plan to go to the EFA museum after breakfast.
