Headrests
« on: September 21, 2014, 18:53:22 »
Hi - What year did headrests become standard?
Have a June 1969 280SL (RHD) to restore and trying to determine if it would have come from factory with headrests?
Thanks!

I could be wrong but I dont think (non-US versions) did become standard wth headrests at any time.

I have a 1970 (RHD) with original seats that does not have headrests.

(neither does my 1969 )

I am restoring the 1970 and am not going with headrests - I prefer the clean lines - especially with the roof is down

Rob is correct here.

All US-version 280 SLs (codes (49/1, 49/3) got headrests from serial 004052 onwards.
Non-US 280ies (which were less comon worldwide than US 280ies) could be ordered with headrests from that particular VIN onwards. But this was for non-US cars always only an option at extra cost, never standard.
