Noise from the speedometer?
« on: December 18, 2014, 15:00:03 »
Hi Everyone,
I am restoring my interior and dash and while I have the speedometer out of the dash, I am trying to fix a noise that starts around 45mph. I pulled the cable out and inspected it. It is in good shape and no problems. (I would like an opinion on what type grease/graphite to use on the cable before re-installing it). I think the noise is in the speedometer head. The oil/grease that has leaked out of the small hole at the base of it is dry and gummed up. Same on the mileage gears. My question is: should I squirt some new oil/grease/graphite into the small hole?(see pics.) Any suggestions? Type of lube? Thanks......

I've used synthetic ATF with good results in both the cable and speedo.

Well, try to get some lube on anything that moves.
