Metal Windshield surround trim - Chrome or not?
« on: January 13, 2015, 13:45:53 »
Hello. Have done my best to check FAQ section but wanted a definitive answer. Are the 2 metal trim strips that surround the windshield "true" Chromed materials? or are they some other type of alloy?

A magnet does not stick so that's first clue.

Reason for asking is that some prior owner let slip what looks to have been an orbital tool of some type which left abrasive swirls. Before I spend allot of money on re-chroming, if material is not chrome it maybe possible to produce some favorable results by steady buffing.

If its chrome, I believe buffing will just scratch it further.

thanks in advance!

The trim is aluminum, but it is anodized not chrome. It is hard to get these in and out without damaging them. Usually the glass must be removed. Chrome plating has problems sticking to aluminum. Be sure you can  find someone to anodize these before you attempt the project.  They are still available new, but a little pricey.

Thanks Joe.

They have already been removed. Windshield is waiting to be put back in based upon what I was going to do with the trim.

Appreciate the response.
