Front Caliper Identification 65 230SL
« on: April 07, 2015, 17:33:18 »
Hey all,

Have run into a small issue that's been making me scratch my head in regards to the front calipers on this 230SL. None of the caliper pictures I've seen match up to the ones that are on the car now.

Some pics and details on my blog!

Thanks,
Allen

Those look like the Girling three-piston calipers like I have on my 1967 230SL.  I chose to keep them instead of replacing them with ATE two-piston calipers.  Parts are still available, including rebuilt units.

They are also described in detail in the BBB.

Owned since 1987 and wrapping up a full rotisserie restoration/modernization.
Was: Papyrus White 717G with Turquoise MBtex 112 and Kinderseat
Is: Dark Blue 332G with Dark Blue Leather (5300, I think)

Hey there Tom,

Indeed they are the Girling calipers. I got a response from one of the international W113 Club groups saying so and got some part numbers for replacement parts/calipers. Go figure, I had a W113 buyers guide book in my stash of books I never thought I'd use and it detailed the cut off between the early Girling and late ATE calipers.

Thank you for the info!
