Can anyone help me identify this switch assembly and also help me figure out how to attach it, when I pulled the engine and 4-speed transmission, I found this little assembly dangling and holding on with a wire tie.  I have figured out that it mounts - somehow - on top to the transmission, but I don't know what it does?  Is it for reverse lights or some kind of neutral safety switch???

Also, it has no holes and no obvious way of attaching, I'm wondering if it was welded on and came loose??

There is a plate on top to the trany that it sits on so that the paddle lever is between the switches, but no way to hold it in place....  And how would you adjust it or does it even need adjustment...???

Any and all thoughts appreciated!

On the transmission photo you can see the black plate, but no holes to crew it on???

I believe that the anti-pollution control units activate the solenoid to shut the pump off if the car is coasting in 3rd or 4th gear.  I think these are the switches that tell the control units what gear the transmission is (or isn't) in.  The parts are shown in the EPC under 68 Transmission, "Gearshift Mechanism Used with Air Pollution Control.

Thanks Chuck,

Well thats not something that I would have figured - pollution control back then! ....Given that the car ran fine before I took it apart and this was not installed, maybe its not to critical to operation.  You can notice where it is mounted in the photo on the transmission page of the Technical Manual section of the site.

I Imagine that I should continue to figure how to mount it on the chance that it operates, I'm going to test the switches....The switches look the same so the trick will be determining which plug go to which switch...

Then crazy thing about these cars, is that just when you think you have it all figured out, there is something else....
