Tool Kit options? Original / OEM-MB / Repro?

Seeking advice on adding a tool-kit for '68 250 SL.

Would like to hear from others who have done the full search, comparisons, and satisfaction with final outcome from below options:

1-Vendors (SLS, authentic classics, Millers, etc)  offering essentially new toolkits with OEM style bags, OE stamped tools, and accessories for~$400

http://www.sls-hh-shop.de/en/230-280SL-W113/99-a-Accessories/A1125800203-Toolbag-with-tools-A1125800203-Toolbag-with-tools.html

http://shop.millermbz.com/tools/tool-kit/58-2005

2-Ebay: hunting for original 113 or period correct M-B sedan tool kits; these look like hit & miss with often faded tool bags and tools in average state from ~$200-400

3-Ordering kits piecemeal: MB bag from vendor, tools from OE mfg. (Heyco, Samtag, etc); fusebox, pliers, etc and random ebay finds.

I am less inclined to go the ebay route as in general ebay quality has declined and I dont have patience for sellers doing pics/bait switch, chasing missing pieces and hassles; all to have an old bag of tools.

I am leaning towards  a "new" kit as I want something in wheel cover thats athestically acceptable and functional v. consours points

Of the tool kit links you have listed, only the one from Authentic Classics is like what is correct for the 113.

If you are looking for something that is fully functional as a tool kit for the road, you are probably better off with a modern set of tools. You can do a search on tool kit using the full search page and can get insights into both directions you are typing about. Concours versus an "on the road" kit.

The wrenches are easy to find. All the other pieces are out there. I have assembled a number of kits doing the ebay search method. There is a listing in the technical manual on the tool kit set up. (Will throw in my 2cents for being full member to have access to all the information).

The most difficult is the proper wooden handle screwdriver.
Then the 300 mm adjustable joint pliers with the MB Star logo
Lug wrench should have a sharp point to allow for removal of the hubcaps

Kayvan,

I've put together 8 kits that I am making available at PUB.  2 are spoken for already.  I have 1 repro bag, and 5 remaining original MBtex bags.  All are complete, with an additional Walter 14/17mm wrench, and a Hazet 2760 14mm/hex head Oil service wrench.  All have fuse kits (with 4 25a stubbies), fuse pullers, lug wrenches, felo screwdrivers (plastic though), wheel centering guide, Heyco 300 water pump pliers (with Mercedes Star), Hazet 767 sparkplug wrenches with T-Bars, Hapewe pliers,  5 wrenches.

$700 per kit (plus freight).  I have multiple colors.  I am saving a black canvas one for a 230 owner.  You have cognac/291H, like mine, so I do have a tan basketweave which would look good in your car.

I also have a bunch of period Hartman First Aid kits, and a spare Kaco Trouble light.  I do have a couple of woodhandle screwdriver sets, but I am keeping those for now.   Most 280SL's had a plastic handle, but yours may have had either, I'm not sure.  I also have a couple of NOS AJ headlight doors if you wanted to buy a pair for backup.  Pricey though.

Let me know if you are interested at least a week before PUB.

I'm watching it too, but it has a 107 hazet 767-2 in it, wrong fuses, but the bag looks right, and the water pump pliers are fine.

Problem is, that the price is going to balloon in the last day.  And it still won't have the fuse pullers, centering tool, Lug Wrench, wrong pliers (should be hapewe, or Will on the early ones), and no t-bar, missing half the felo screwdriver inserts, and no oil service wrench (bonus).  And it will still go for $450.

Jon, if this is your kit for sale, .... sorry.

I pieced my kit together using ebay years ago when the sedan kits were cheap.  If you do go this route at least one part of the Wiki is iffy.  It lists a replacement part number for the spark plug wrench of 0005810587 which although is a correct replacement it will not fit the tool roll.  The spark plug wrench should not have a spring on it and the length should be roughly 8" or 200mm. Part# is 0005810667 or also listed as Hazet 767.
