Hi,

The part number suggests its not the wheel centering tool.
It's described as a special tool (insert/Einsatz) for  an OM 352 diesel engine used in among others the Unimog.
No idea what its specific use is for though.

Hans,

That is the part number we have in our Tech manual. for the wheel centering tool. I see what you are saying, it has another part number on it and appears to be something else.

It's definitely NOT a wheel mounting stud. If you look at the measurements you'll see that the thread is roughly the right size but the main body is way to big to pass through a wheel bolt hole.

Mike,
I incline towards the "Spielzeug" theory ;) although I wonder about the threaded shaft...

Hans seems to be on the right track.  usually the first three digits are first use.  In this case OM352 diesel.  The next three(589) denote special tool.  The last 2 digits are the sub part number or in this case it isn't part of a set.  whenever you see 01, 02 etc in the last 2 digits try swapping "00" for the last 2 digits which will give you the set part #.

Whatever it is it is still current and I found a reference to Freightliner so I am guessing Sprinter Diesel.  As for what it specifically is I am guessing it is an adaptor to mount an engine on an engine stand.
