Confused on removing radiator fan.
« on: October 12, 2015, 15:36:49 »
The Haines manual tells me to remove the 4 bolts from behind the fan. Is it the 4 bolts on the fan itself or the pulley face? I was going to remove the 4 from the fan but realized that the fan is aluminum and would be most likely messed up using a gear puller. ???

Hi, CJ,

Yes, the 4 special bolts on the pulley face will release the fan together with the viscous coupling. No puller required
You can protect the rad core by using a sheet of cardboard

Thanks, next question is. Is there a shop manual that is better then this Haines manual?

Hi,
a tip: Remove only 3 bolts and loose the forth bolt only. Because of the mouth openings of the  pulley you can remove it and you'll find the holes when you reinstall it again.

Thanks for the tip because I would have removed all four and it would have been a hassle for sure.

If you have the shroud around the fan it needs to be removed too. Once all bolts are taken out/lose I take the shroud and fan out together, that way you will not scratch the radiator.
