Federal to Euro Head Light Conversion
« on: October 14, 2015, 10:15:12 »
Hi all,

I have a Euro spec car that has been to California and "federalized" and I want to return it to original.

I have bought myself some euro spec lights but noted that a small clip attached to the wing (fender? for you guys across the pond) prevents them from being fitted - see the picture. The clip is what holds the top of the chrome surround on the federal headlights. The same clip is integral to the light on the euro version.

Do I have to drill the clip out to fix the Euro lights?

Regards

Peter,

On my US model, that clip is screwed not riveted. It is a '68 and who knows what they did during the various years. I am surprised it would be riveted as not many things are on these cars. Maybe at some point it was riveted because the screws stripped out?

Not sure if you need that for the Euro light as I have never done that.

Hi Wallace,

Maybe as it's a conversion they riveted it?

it looks like I'll just have to man up and drill out the clips.

Cheers

It is easy to do. Just measure the ID hole of the rivet and use that drill. That should be close enough to weaken the rivet so it will come out.

Just out of curiosity, what holds the Euro light assembly in?

Hello Wallace,

I think the bulb assembly on the euro unit has the clip built in.
