help need to remove blaupunkt radio
« on: November 06, 2015, 03:11:05 »
Hi, I want to remove a blaupunkt radio from my 280se 3.5.  I know this is not the section for other models however most of the knowledgable comments re car radios are made here.

I have removed the separate amplifier (see photo) which has the numbers 2913709Z stenciled on one end, and a paper sticker with the numbers 567264 on it, if the amplifiier can identify the radio model by anyone?

As you can see in the other attached photo the radio does not have a model name on the front.  Several points of interest are that the fm scale goes up to 108, and the scales rise from right to left.  I have never seen a radio with the scales this way, normally they rise from left to right (as far as I know)?

To release the radio I have removed the two front adjustment knobs, then removed the two round nuts that are positioned behind the knobs and levers thinking this would release the front bezel plate as with a becker radio, but this does not let the plate be removed.

I then found a securing bracket at the rear of the radio and removed this, however the radio remains firmly in place.

Can anyone help plse?

I'm not familiar with Blaupunkt but the last Becker face plate I removed took a bit of persuasion using plastic wedges for removing door panels.  I was really afraid I would break the glass but jamming the plastic wedges in there did the trick without damaging anything.   Once I popped the face plate off the two radio securing brackets were out in the open and the radio was able to be removed.

Hi Ian, thanks for that, I have tried to gently lever under the chrome frame itself but it definitely won't go.  I could try the inner plastic plate but like you I'm really worried it might crack.

You'll have to unscrew the nuts around the two shafts first. After that the plastic piece comes off. Behind the plastic plate you'll find the mechanism that holds the radio in place...

Hi Petri, thanks for that, and a big thankyou to Ian.  After reading his post I went back and had another look at the plastic front plate.  On the LH lower side there is a very small slot which you can get a small screwdriver in and carefully lever the plastic front plate off.  As you say it is plain sailing from then on in.  I am going to take the radio and amplifier to a radio guy to bench test.  i was hoping it was stereo but looking at the speaker wires it doesn't look likely.
