early 1963 230sl 123ignition install

After reading all the wonderful knowlege and experience I have replaced my dist with the 123ignition dist. I replaced a vacuume retard dist the PO had installed. I've been hearing of a number of people replacing the wrong dist. I installed the R-V model, removed the ballast, and left the spring out. There is no play up and down in this dist like the OEM has that seems to use the spring to keep contact with the rotor and cap. I removed all plugs and rotated the engine to perfect TDC, removed the old and installed the new with the hold down clamp upside down for proper fit. AS I rotated the dist counter clockwise more and more the engine seemed to come to life obviously. I tried the tune at 1, 2, or 3 per instructions, and the motor seemed very sluggish. I them moved the switch between 6 and 8 and the motor seemed very responsive and lively.  So far the car is running incredibly well. I dont claim to be a professional mecanic by any means, I have learned some great info, I hope this helps anyone who needs it.
