DOES NOT UNBRAKE IMIDIATLY
« on: November 09, 2015, 12:30:02 »
Hi, i've having some problems with my 1968 SL 250 brakes, first the revs went up and down when braking, now I have replaced de booster but when I brake it stays braked for some time before unbraking, when I have to brake many times in short space it seems to not unbrake at all, does anyone know what it the reason for this?
Thanks

Oscar,

Try using the SEARCH function with different words (Brakes, Caliper binding, brakes sticking etc).  Lots has been discussed here about binding brakes.   Here is one search to get you started.  The problem you have is typically old hoses or sticking caliper.  You can test to know which it is.

Try this search:

good luck and let us know what you find out.

If you mean your brakes are not releasing after you have taken your foot off the footbrake, check that you have some free play at the footbrake pedal, you may have eliminated the free play when you changed the brake booster/servo.

I've had problems with this a couple of times. In one case I had the wrong master cylinder mounted on the booster and in the other case the push in lever was seized up on the booster mounting bracket. You should be able to move this lever around when the brakes are not applied.

I would also check the eccentric bolt on the push pin. The small notch on the head of this bolt should face towards the firewall, which gives you minimum brake pedal free play, and you might need to adjust it so that there is no tension when the braking system is at rest.
