280SL correct brake booster for replacement

I must replace the brake booster on my 280SL. Sent the original one to Power Brake Exchange and was damaged during shipment. Found a new one (ATE) at Autohaus AZ with a part number 002 430 68 30. (http://www.autohausaz.com/pn/0024306830) Will it work in my car? Does it need some adaptation kit?

You may be better off trying to find a good used one rather than fooling around with trying to make any mods to make it work. I went through this with my 230Sl brake booster. I did have mine successfully rebuilt by PBE but also located a good used spare that I keep on hand just in case. Ck around they are usually listed on ebay and breakers usually have a car or two they can be taken off of. Just be careful because I believe there are some differences depending upon the model year

The brake booster on a 230SL/250SL/early 280SL is different from what was fitted to the later type 280SL.
Break was in 280SL/8 production starting with Chassis No 6 618, in the end of November 1968.
Both original type brake boosters are NLA today; instead there is a replacement/substitute type with slightly larger dimensions.

I went through exactly the same as this with PBE and I thought they learned their lesson that time! That plastic sleeve is not replaceable and needs very careful packing before being sent. The irony is that they warned ME about that for when I sent it to them. However, they did not protect it when they sent it back.  In the end they supplied a replacement. Its not quite the same as the original and requird a spacer

The new Brake Booster is slighly more powerful but I prefer the feel of the old one and keep a lookout for an original one to send for rebuild one day...

I just received my rebuilt power booster from Power Brake Exchange with the plastic sleeve cracked and broken as it was not sufficiently protected for shipment! When I called them on the phone they offered to return the charges of $234.75 I paid for rebuilding the booster but are unable to solve the problem since the plastic sleeve is unavailable.
Does anyone have a plastic sleeve for sale? The booster is an ATE T51/1801 (the 9" diam version) that was placed in the 1970 280SL.

In the absence of a plastic sleeve, have a look at MB Classics website in Germany, serial numbers etc. & applicable vehicle chassis numbers are detailed here:

Send Alexander an email  info@mbclassics.de  and ask him if any modifications are required to this booster, he normally replies very promptly.
