AC hose routing
« on: November 29, 2015, 22:44:13 »
I have a 66 with kuhlmeister  AC with a sanden rotary compressor located on a bracket at the engine bottom. The hose routing used when it was installed is a mess. They ran one of the hoses actually through the right wheel well and the tire rubs the hose occasionally. Also, the hose angle off the compressor causes it to repeatedly wiggle the fitting when the motor moves within its mounts, causing the fitting to leak sooner or later It's a complete sh+t job they did at the dealer when the car was originally sold.

Can someone please supply me with info or a diagram on where the hoses should really be routed? I have the two condensor model...one condensor in front of the radiator and a small condensor below the bumper. Once I figure out correct  hose routing, I will have some new hoses made.

Hi. I replaced the Mickey Mouse (apologies to Disney) "dual condenser" setup with a parallel flow condenser, and fitted a Sanden compressor. This enabled tidying up the hose runs, and involves new hoses with much better fittings, so I"m no longer constantly chasing leaks. I'm using 134A, and it works well, although I must admit I haven't tried it in the Nevada desert.  Hope this is of some use.
   Cheers,  Dale.

I'm not going to change the condensors....I can just see obviously that the hose routing is a mess and would like to see a photo or diagram of the proper routing if someone has it. Thx

Vande,
The hoses are supposed to run from the top of the York compressor up to the shock mount on the passenger side and then around the shock top and towards the firewall where they penetrate a bit low into the passenger footwell area to the evaporator unit.
Both hoses are fastened to the inner wheelhousing with fasteners (two of not three) and sheet metal screws.
Never into the wheel well space shared with the tire.
Always in the engine compartment.

Thanks...I rerouted them and it turned out well. Last owner had one of the hoses running through the wheel well where it was  rubbed until it developed a leak. It's all good. Nothing that throwing $$ at it can fix....ha ha
