red light in dash
« on: March 25, 2016, 22:42:59 »
Just in the process of getting and engine rebuild and figured it would be a good time to refurbished  the gauges. The point of this post is has anyone else got a red light in their dash like this one.  It seems to be a factory install by looking at the wiring.   looks like it is a warning light for the emergency flashers.  The ground wasn't hooked up must have been missed in a previous gauge refit.   Have never seen one before.

Depending on where the car was originally delivered, It could have been retrofitted to meet DOT requirements of a certain country in order to be imported. Or retrofitted when imported by a PO. Does it have an emergency flasher pull switch as well?

I would say no. Emergency flashers run through the signal relay system and display as both turn signals working so a separate light wouldn't be needed.

Reg,

I support what Dr. Benz (Dan) says.
Doesn't look like anything for an emergency flasher.  ???
You need to have a pull switch for an emergency flasher if you have one; however, your assembly around the original flasher relay looks stock to me. So perhaps you have no em. flasher.

As to the warning light you have found on your dash ... does it illuminate? In red ... really??
It looks to me as a control light for the trailer hitch (flasher) and those illuminate green or slightly yellow.
Perhaps there was once a hitch under your car.

Good luck,

This 230sl did have a trailer hitch.  I had to remove it to drop the fuel tank.  The light is red and seems to be hooked into the emergency flasher system.  I have no battery in the car for now as the engine is out.  Hopefully it will be back together within a couple of weeks and I can power up the flashers.
