« on: January 01, 2016, 22:01:18 »
Hey guys new here. Always liked these cars. Have seen one in a neighbors garage for 18 years. Finally stopped and inquired.  1964 230 SL  "European" model, kinder seat, 4 spd. Clean straight running car He's thinking of selling. As I am a novice, any info, suggestions  etc. would be great.

Have a good read in the Tech Manual particularly in the area on buying these cars and the Tech Manual elsewhere as more information you have the more informed your decision will be.

Good luck with the purchase and hope to see you on here as a new Pagoda Owner.

Enlist the help of other members in your vicinity to look the car over or ask a professional to help you.
Where in CA are you?

2 things:

Rust, Rust, Rust, Rust.  Remember this thing started it's life in Europe and their is a reason that these things are heading back across the pond.  Poke around a lot.

If the speedometer is a Mile per hour unit it was changed when it was imported from Europe per USDOT regulations so the shown miles are the miles since importation.

Parts prices have really skyrocketed in recent years just buying a fuel pump can be a $1000 day.
