Hand brake removal

I have just tried to remove my hand brake lever, disconnected the cable and the pivot bolt ok but when it came to undoing the main mounting bolt it would not shift.
Put a long extension bar on the ratchet and managed to turn it but still using a lot of force and it did not get any easier or seem to actually be undoing.
Any ideas as to whats happening, does it have a lock nut on the other side ?

That bolt has left handed thread.

Turn clockwise to loosen.

In a situation like this where loosening the bolt as if it were RH threads doesn't yield success, I always carefully turn the other way just to see what happens. Only then I will go for a longer extension. In the case off bolt corrosion, it sometimes helps to budge a tiny bit tighter first. It seems to break up the corrosion instead of jamming it.

Story goes that what the public know as Q branch from the Bond films did sort of exist - Fleming would have known about it as he was the "right sort" to be a spook - have a read of Ben McIntyre's books (Operation Mincemeat is good)
As it happens, Q did develop canister type items with a screw lid that were RH threaded. Believing the enemy were so literal that they'd never think to "do it up" to open it

Is this the only left hand thread fastener on the car except for the 4 linkage ball sockets?

No, there's also the tie rod ends on each side of the front suspension.

ahh yes, forgot about those. I guess the hard and soft top right front clasps could count as well.

and I discovered after stripping the throttle linkage rod that one end is also a LH fastner.
