Dash vent disassembly

I was able to take apart the louvers on each of the dash vents but was wondering if someone can chime in on the disassembly of the small butterfly flaps on the smaller port. It looks like they might be able to punched out from if you place a punch on the inside of the side closest to the frame. Here are some pics.

I assume there's a pin that holds it together but I bet it won't come apart easily, if at all. Never tried before so I don't really know.

Yes, you need a pin punch, and the pin can be carefully hammered out and this louver can be chromed. I did it myself some years ago.

I took mine apart recently and there was a very tiny C clip between the butterfly and the tube that it sits in. I needed a magnifier to see it and a tiny pick to remove it. I seem to remember the flap may have been spring loaded but I'd need to check the bag of bits to be sure. I am fairly sure there was only one clip but I'd look real hard before you do anything.

I wouldn't go hammering anything until you are certain there's no clip there. One of mine was seized in even after the clip was out and I damaged the pin getting it out.

It was a real pig to get out though and I'm sure will be equally bad to reassemble. My chrome plater broke one and messed the other one up so I have another pair on the way to me, hopefully I'll have better luck with these ones. Easier with two of you also.

Correct, the flap axle can be punched out but only after removing a C-clip!  :o
The picture below should help you understanding the process. First you need to compress the spring to expose the C-clip and then the fund starts to remove it.
Get some small "dentists" hooks to remove the clip and make sure that it doesn't fly away. Put a magnet close to it to capture it.

It's all coming back to me now.....

It was actually my eagle eyed wife that saw the C clip. I had turned my attention to the Corona on my workbench....
