French Yellow European Headlight Unit Lens
« on: February 14, 2016, 05:40:15 »
OK -- I'm a bit obsessed with these export market Yellow Euro Lens

I assume one would have to swap with clear lens units OR are Euro Headlight units sold as frame only ?

I see vintage Porsches here in LA with Yellow headlights; and CA DMV code say yellow is ok

This is crazy ...

Kayvan, If you purchase the euro assembly's, it comes with the glass but no chrome trim ring. However the trim ring is the same as our U.S. versions. get yourself a pair of Hella H-4 conversions instead and put yellow H-4 bulbs in them. Will compliment your new yellow fogs.

If you go with the Hella conversions, make sure you get the E-code fixtures. They throw the light on the ground with a definitive cut off line, like the Cibie's do. As opposed to the other hellas that are more like the sealed beams in the way they broadcast the light.

Michael, Vintage Euro Parts has reproduction/aftermarket versions here>> http://vintageeuroparts.com/100557.html
Authentic Classics has these as well as the Mercedes replacement units but they don't have the bosch logo on the glass. This is what you get from the dealer >> http://www.authenticclassics.com/Mercedes-230SL-250SL-280SL-113Ch-Euro-Headlight-p/auth-003799.htm

Pagodas never came with yellow lenses on the French market. They had yellow bulbs, like the vast majority of other cars on the French market (including 911s). Only a few cars came with yellow lenses which were round, like BMWs and the stacked headlights on W109 6.3s. However, separate fog lights usually had yellow lenses.

This eBay seller from Cyprus has the flat lens and claims they are for the French market.

I grew up in France and I have never seen a Pagoda with such yellow lenses. As a matter of fact, this is the first time I see them. I Googled the part number supplied by the seller and it comes out as clear lenses everywhere else. Here is an example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MERCEDES-BENZ-SL-W113-PAGODE-SET-H1-FLAT-HEADLIGHT-LENSES-BOSCH-1305630067-NEW-/371514568619

This should not prevent you from buying them though, if you like the looks. We should enjoy our cars the way we like them. Mind you, I added two cylinders to mine!

We all have seen the complete photo, here is a detail showing a 230SL on the assembly line with yellow lamps but not full faced yellow lenses.
