Sls rear axle ratio
« on: April 20, 2016, 16:00:11 »
Hi,

Time has come to rebuild my rear axle and would like to change the diff, rather than replace the whole axle I noticed sls are selling a gear set for installation into existing casing.

Has anyone installed one of these SLS ratios onto their car?

Thanks in advance

I inquired about the same on a different thread but from a different seller- Babak (Vintage euro parts) on e-bay. There are 2 different ones depending on disc or drum brake setup. Anyone familiar with these?

There was a thread on this worth reading under Drive Train, Fuel, Suspension, Steering & Brakes posted on the 8th Sept 2015 started by star63.

db180,
Make sure you find someone to do this swap before you invest in the gear set.  Properly setting up a new ring and pinion in a Mercedes swing axle requires a few very specialized tools.  I am sure shops that have the tools are few.  Don't let anyone fool you into thinking they can just "wing it".

If you scroll down you will see the tools:
