Italian 280SL
« on: April 06, 2016, 23:52:16 »
there is a guy on Long Island that claims his 280SL has no belt molding (chrome around the doors and fenders)
because it is an Italian 280SL, anybody ever hear of this?

I have a 280SL that was originally delivered to Italy. Details that differ are tiny orange side markers on front wings, orange lens for indicators in the taillights, and no orange inside headlight assembly. No chrome strip low at rear betweeen the rear bumpers.
All else is just like a normal Euro delivery SL; i.e. the side mouldings (chrome trim) are certainly present (they were factory fitted on all W113 cars)

Do you mean the lower chrome and aluminum finishers that run along the bottom of the front fenders behind the front wheels, along the bottom of each door and on the rear quarter panel in front of the rear wheels, and the chrome finisher on the lower part of the rear quarter panel behind the rear wheel?
If so your Long Island guy is wrong!
