Not sure what this is. Located by ignition coil.

What is this there are no markings except 15 16 7 and am thinking it's a part of the ignition system. Can't find it in the shop manual.

That there is the transistorized ignition control unit. When they fail sometimes owners would bypass them and run a standard points and condenser setup.

Tyler is correct. The earlier models such as 230SL do not have the electronic ignition and therefore, do not have this box.
