Cold start Valve........plating??
« on: May 30, 2016, 09:16:47 »
Hello gentlemen,

I am having most of the parts of my engine compartment plated. What about the CSV? I presume this is not the thing to do when I see these extremely small spray nozzles. I could not figure out how to demount the nozzle... obviously only the lid should be plated. Is it Ok to take this thing apart, or is this risky business? +how to do this?

Thanks guys,

Jan

The cold start valve housing is not plated. It should be left bare aluminum. The fuel and air line fittings can be removed and yellow cad/yellow zinc plated.

The solenoid can be plated too but all plated parts should be immersed in a light oil (WD40) as soon as possible after plating.
Otherwise pipes get block and moving parts like solenoids get seized.

I avoid plating anything like solenoids or vacuum cells because of these reasons. We use gold paint on BC units, solenoids and vacuum cells. Why take a chance? I may not be exact but most people never even notice.

I was nervous until I'd done a few but the process actually conditions rubber so fuel hoses come out like new!

Thanks guys... I think I wont have it plated then... instead I should go for a paint I think.

stickandrudderman: what do you mean by: 'the process conditions rubber so fuel lines come out as new'?

Cheers,

Jan

I mean that I routinely include original fuel hoses with my yellow plate parts and they come out like new.

I use a spray can paint sold here in America. Dupli-color it is a match for a Chrysler color I believe. right bracket color is factory yellow cad plating and left color is the paint.
