air conditioner evaporator box disassembly

Has anyone disassembled the AC evaporator and fan box inside the car? what is the correct procedure?
I want to open the box to clean it inside and replace the lining which after 50 years it is most probably gone as the metal box gets very cold and condensates when the air is blowing cold.
