Headlight high beam?
« on: July 27, 2016, 04:08:33 »
My recent purchase:  1967 250 SL.  The headlights seem to be continuously on low beam when the light switch is in the "on"   Position.  Pulling the headlight stalk will dip the headlights to momentary high beam but will not locked into high beam permanently.  Should the high beams permanently lock into high beam?

No. Pulling the stalk is the "Flash to Pass" feature. That is usually disabled on North American cars. To permanently enable the high beams use the foot switch to the left of the brake/clutch pedal.
Being a 250sl your car also has fog lights built into the headlight doors. It may be wired 1 of 2 ways. Set the headlight switch on or running lamp position, then pull the knob to activate.

Tyler: thank you.  Obviously and for good reason I recognized my candidacy for idiot of the forum.  There was in fact a working foot switch under the carpet folds.  If I can  find a copy of the owners manual, I would no doubt discover other questions of mistery.  Again, thanks for entertaining my question.

Not that unusual of a mistake Tom.  Many of these combination switches on the steering column are damage by people who try to find the high beams here, as is there modern cars.
