1697 Pagoda LHD Manual- US import to UK
« on: July 15, 2016, 11:49:17 »
Hi all,

I have a 1967 Pagoda 250 SL LHD California 2+2 Manual, recently imported from the USA. The car reads Kms, not miles. Are all Pagodas in Kms ? Or is there a possibility that this car was imported into the USA from another country ??

If you obtain your build data from merces you will know where it was first sold. (that is, you will know if you avail yourself of the information available on this site.)

To answer your question, the speedo could be miles or km. both were original and it depends on where the car was first sold. A car with no soft top in km would be unusual. It may have been changed before.

To help you get started, here is some info on the Data Card:

http://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/DataCards

You can get the Data Card at no-cost, if you don't have one with your car,  from Mercedes Classic Centers in Germany or USA, by email.  Do a little searching on this site and you will find lots more info about Data Cards.  The link above will give you tons of info.

All Mercedes dealers can, if they are willing and able, provide you with a data card.

I requested a datacard and a "Certificate" using the email address in the Technical Manual to MB in Stuttgart. I got the following reply:

Thank you very much for your kind e-mail.

We regret to inform you that the information you obtained from the mentioned website is not correct. As a matter of fact, vehicle datacards are only available at you local Mercedes-Benz dealer. Please note that the datacard, which covers all the documented delivery information, can only be supplied after showing proof of ownerhip.

In respect to the so called “Mercedes-Benz Certificate” we have to inform you that we stopped offering this product several years ago. We hope for your understanding. By the way, the Mercedes Benz Certificate did not include some kind of additonal information. Actually it was was based on the datacard.

I called the local MB dealership in Sweden and they promised to look into it.

Thanks. I've updated the Technical Manual page.

It would be very helpful if Full Members, when they find things incorrect or unclear in the Technical Manual  or, as now, corrected in an up-to-date forum post -- took a little effort to update the information there that benefits us all. Thanks for your contribution in advance.

I confess I have no idea how to do it.

Hi sheimimac,

Did you manage to get your build datacard?  If not I can give you a contact as I have just got the datacard for mine which I also bought from the US.  It cost me £20.00 but gives me all information on the vehicle so was worth it.

Also, I have a kph speedo too.  My car was originally built for the German market but was later shipped to the US.  I would suspect yours may have a similar fate although you could confirm this I believe without the datacard and from the VIN plate on your car.  Mine reads 113043 10 2.  I believe the last number (2) dictates country code for purchase location.  So mine was bought by a German dealership and then shipped to the US sometime later.  America would be a seven.

Still lots to learn.  Where abouts are you based in the UK?

Regards

Steven

Hi there,

I have just got my pagoda mot'd , it is an import . I have a copy of the data card  but do I need any other documentation , like a heritage/ build certificate to get the car registered in the UK?

Most, if not all California Coupes were never available new in the US.  That is probably why the car has a speedo in Kilometers.  If you have the number 491 stamped on the data plate at the hood latch, then it is a US car without the 491, it isn't.
