bolts Oil filter house
« on: October 16, 2016, 08:51:00 »
Gentlemen,

After a lot of cleaning, sanding electroplating etc, I am now starting to put my engine parts back together.
This question is about the oil filter housing. I read (too late) in my MB book that the central hollow bolt (the one that holds the long canister bolt) should never be removed because it is 'glued' in the topcover.
(see pic, it is indicated with the crew driver). Since I HAVE removed it, what is the recommendation? Put some sealant around the head, or use a metal seal, or nothing?

Thanks again guys,

Jan

I've used two part epoxy glue then baked it in an oven to glue a part similar to this last year. Perhaps epoxy would be good for this one as well.

Thanks Cees.. so it is serious... it must be glued. I don't have an oven, so I presume I can use Loctite for this one?

Thank!

Well, I baked it in the oven because according to the glue (UHU) instructions this had a significant impact on the strength of the glue. I would just use a good quality epoxy glue for your application, Loctite does make a variety of those I think.

I would assume it is glued so it doesn't back out when the lower filter bolt is tightened.  I am sure red locktite on clean threads will be fine.
