1965 230 SL with VIN TAG of 10-009130
« on: September 05, 2016, 15:26:41 »
Gentlemen, I am in the process of restoring and sorting out some wiring issues with this particular W113.  I have reviewed the schematics etc. on all of the 230SL and the early 280's of which none really match mine.. some parts yes.  As an example, this car has electric washer pump, and I had to replace the turn signal switch assembly and the Pin outs don't match... there are a set of relays mounted on the firewall on the driver side on the fender up near the brake vacuum, this is where the electric washer pump was mounted also.  And the VIN Tag --- 10-009130 ---  whats up with that??.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!

All, after some serious work on the VIN tag... it is 113.042-10-009130..   So a January/ February of 1965 230SL.  This however, makes the electrical components all the more confusing....

The best schematic to use is the one that is in the owners manual the car came with (if you have it). It is only one of two foldouts in the manual so it is easy to find.
The relays are for the cold start valve and the enrichment solenoid. There are 2 versions of turn signal switches. A short straight stock, and a longer bent stock. They are electrically different so make sure you are using the correct one. All w113's had an electric washer pump. You will find that the replacement has a slightly different mounting bracket and will not simply bolt up. you can disassemble the old one and reuse the bracket with the new pump. you may need to enlarge the 4 small mounting holes to do so.

Well, first -thanks for the responses.  After some additional investigation, it appears someone else has been fiddling with the harness.  The wires for the electric washer motor, the wiper relay etc. were over in the pin harness going to the back of the guage cluster... no wonder they did'nt work....and I could not wire trace them to the turn signal switch harness.   So I have a bit more work to sorting it all out.. but hey time is cheaper than a bunch of parts anyday.
