250 Exhaust
« on: September 13, 2016, 14:23:54 »
Hi, I'm now 1000 miles covered in my wonderful 67 250sl. A few issues at the start which resulted in some top end work and a new head gasket (I think down to 300 miles use in 10 years by the previous owner). Its driving great now and I'm enjoying every mile.

A question though...  the car had a total rebuild, with mostly genuine new parts. The exhaust however is a stainless system, and personally I think it makes far too loud a noise when accelerating hard or climbing a hill (obviously more noticeable at the moment due to the roof being down).
Will the exhaust note come down if I fit a MB system, and can I just fit a rear box or do I need more ? The stainless system is in perfect condition.

Hi Dudlow,

It is worthwhile having a listen to a few other Pagodas, and then I think you will fine that these cars usually have a reletivly noisy exhaust.
I just enjoy the car, and leave the exhaust noise behind, for others to enjoy!

Keep well

Thanks Paul.
I have heard several, but never from behind the wheel !
I guess just get used to it. Its never going to be as quiet as a modern exhaust system, and you can't hear a thing when just cruising along.

Stainless exhaust just doesn't sound correct. We still have all of the exhaust components except the header pipes.
