230SL Contacts
« on: October 08, 2016, 12:56:44 »
Does anyone know at what vin number the contacts changed from Bosch GB504 to GB543?  All I have is 1964 should have GB504 and 1965 on-wards have GB543 but I'd like to be a little more accurate.

Thanks for any help...

GB504 analogues:

I think there are three different distributors used on a 230SL. The first two are VA and the last, the 051, is a VR unit. You should have a VA for that year of car. If you are not sure look at your distributor. VA units have the vacuum advance cell pointing towards the firewall and VR points towards the rad.

Thanks for your help Dr B
Does this mean I use the GB543 in my car?

I've attached a photo of my distributor.

Thanks again

So it looks as though I have a later distributor on my car ... is this likely to cause any problems?

GB543 is the correct set for the 051 distributor.

You need to ensure you have the correct vacuum retard throttle body to go with this distributor.

See the wiki under distributor for details.
