Center bearing rubber doughnut
« on: November 16, 2016, 22:20:03 »
Hi,

This weekend I started to reassemble the drive shaft bearing and suddenly I was a bite confused.
I read this topic about the rubber doughnut and got more confused. https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=18410.msg128509#msg128509

The original doughnut on my car, a late 280 SL, is symmetrical and had part number 111 413 04 12. I ordered a new doughnut from MB and received a symmetrical with part number 111 413 00 12, the old one is no longer available. The new one has a hole in it. I assume that’s for the grease fitting bearings mentioned in the old topic.

As I understand all the pagodas has the symmetrical doughnut and in the old topic it’s all about the w111?!

Since the new one has a hole.  I want to mount it with the hole down and facing backwards. So that it drain easy and doesn’t get filled with dirt.  Would you have covered the hole with something? How does it look on the cars having this old grease bearings?

Hi Lars,
The old universals had a grease nipple peeping through the hole. It didnt stick out, but it was in there. Yep, I would put the hole facing backwards and wouldnt bother to plug it.
