Shims for Hardtop
« on: November 29, 2016, 19:41:30 »
After attaching the hardtop on my'71 280SL last year, I've noticed that the attachment at the windshield on the right works itself slightly loose and the hardtop rattles a bit while driving. As a result, I purchased a pair of shims.
I'll be affixing the hardtop next week, and my 2 questions are: Is it a simple matter of removing the screws and slipping in the shim and, since the attachment on the other side is tight, should I remove that as well and replace the other shim purchased or leave as is?
Thanks from suburban Philadelphia

Yes, use a good quality screw driver so not to mar the chrome screws. Picture of spacer shims attached. IMHO, if you do fit spacers, these should go on both left and right side.
Also, are you aware of the nylon rings that go onto the attachments? These help to make them stable, see picture
