Hello everybody !
I am a new member with a big mystery,
I hope that someone here will be able to give the explanation about this , because it is very uncommon plate !
I precise that this car is a very late one ( 11/1966 ).
THanks !

The option code 992 refers to "for further non-coded special versions, see production order I".  My guess would be this car was a special order.  There is no paint code and no country code.  Later 230SL's had the data plate installed before paint so this car was never sent to the paint shop and perhaps was painted elsewhere.  They didn't know where it was being shipped so it got a zero for a country code.  Just my guess.

What is the VIN?  Do you have any history for this car?

That plate should sit in the engine bay, not in the soft top booth...
Are you sure the plate is original? Do you have data card for this vehicle?

Two plates: chassis number plate, paint code plate

The picture of your car's paint code plate shows it is attached next to german sticker for soft top warning, which is usually positioned in the soft top booth.
In addition, both plates on your car are riveted, not screwed in, as done originally. But that is minor thing.

If you do not have data card, it is worth contacting classic centre with your chassis number. It will reveal details pertaining to your car.

Yes, thanks for these informations, but I know all this ...
I am just curious to know if someone here have seen a plate with the same strange indications ...
It must be not unique I think !
